This week, the lecture is focused on Analytics, SEO and Audience Growth. In the reading from data.ai (2022), the mobile trends of 2021 were discussed. Here, I want to talk about them a little bit more.

Firstly, I noticed the trend of convenience and efficiency. They mentioned that many people were moving towards more self-employed roles by working for companies like DoorDash. Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, I think that people really valued their time and ability to do what they pleased as opposed as to what their bosses demanded of them. The use of food-related apps was also interesting to me. I think that the pandemic allowed for the expansion of contactless services (such as mobile ordering), which also ended up being more time-saving for some. For others, contactless services might be more comfortable because of social anxieties surrounding ordering out.

Next, the reading also mentioned the rise of livestreaming. I believe that it is linked once again, to COVID-19. The pandemic cut out a lot of socialization time for people, and livestreaming allowed for people to have interactions on an individual basis. I think that the appeal came from people being able talk to others that weren’t in their immediate social circle.

Lastly, there were some trends in the findings that I wonder have changed now. In 2021, Netflix downloads had spiked, but nowadays, I wonder if that’s changed. With the ban on password sharing, raise in monthly plans, and introduction of advertisements for the cheapest price, I can’t help but wonder how that’s affected their client base. As well, the Flo app and other period tracking applications were highly ranked for likeliness of use in Australia and I assume that the USA would have similar rankings. Since 2021, Roe V. Wade has been overturned in the USA, removing reproductive rights for women. I remember shortly after the news broke, many women on social media were advising people to uninstall their period tracking apps for safety reasons. If the Australian ranking is reflected in the USA, I wonder how the overturning has affected the likeliness of use of period tracking apps.
